Morris Cohen Award
Light Metals Best Paper Award
Non-Ferrous Pyrometallurgy Award
Materials Science Best Paper Award
The Sherritt Hydrometallurgy Award
Origin
The ArcelorMittal Dofasco Award was established to recognize highly significant contributions
in the field of materials engineering.
Criteria
The Materials Science and Engineering Section of The Metallurgical Society of CIM administers the award.
Conditions of Award
- The award shall be made from time to time as circumstances warrant in recognition of highly significant
contributions to the advancement of materials engineering in Canada.
- No more than one award may be made in any one year. The recipient must be domiciled in Canada and must be
a Member of the Institute.
- The adjudication of the award shall be made by the Awards Committee of the Materials Science and Engineering Section
of The Metallurgical Society of CIM.
- All nominations are solicited by a past recipient of the award, then submitted to a ballot by the Section
Committee of the Materials Science and Engineering Section of The Metallurgical Society of CIM. The Section Committee
then selects a nominee for recommendation to the MetSoc Awards Chair no later than February 1st of each year. Each
nomination is to be accompanied by a statement giving clearly the reasons which, in the opinion of the Section, make
their nominee a suitable candidate for this award.
- The Awards Committee of the Section shall submit its recommendation and all necessary documentation to the Chair
of the Awards Committee of the Metallurgical Society. The Chair of the Awards Committee will then bring the
recommendation for approval by the Board of Directors of the Society at the Spring meeting. The Chair of the Awards Committee
will then advise the awardee.
- The award, including the testimonial, shall be presented at the Awards Banquet of the Conference of Metallurgists
by a Dofasco representative.
- The Society may elect to invite the recipient to deliver a special lecture during the Conference.

Origin
The Iron and Steel Section of the Metallurgical Society of CIM recognizes the importance of relevant industrial experience in
the curriculum of undergraduate engineering and technology students. Professor D. A. R. Kay of McMaster University had a special
interest in steel metallurgy and education, and the Iron and Steel Section of MetSoc offers an annual travel award to an outstanding
Canadian undergraduate student in the materials/metallurgical engineering and technology field. The Award is to assist students, to a maximum
of $2,500, with travel, relocation and living expenses incurred because they had to move to pursue a summer or other work term in an iron and
steel-related business anywhere in Canada, or to a maximum of $4,000 for travel and living expenses outside of Canada.
Application Procedure
This Award is available to students currently enrolled in a second or third year of a materials/process metallurgy/metallurgical engineering or
technology program at a Canadian University or college.
The application deadline is April 30 for a work term to be undertaken within the calendar year. Applications must include:
1. A professional resume and academic transcript;
2. A letter of recommendation from the Chair of the student's academic department;
3. An offer of employment from the company providing the work term.
The application should be submitted to:
