Awards

A fundamental responsibility of The Metallurgical Society of CIM is to recognise and honour those members who have excelled through their outstanding achievements and contributions to metallurgy and related fields. By bestowing appropriate awards, the Society encourages high standards of endeavour and focuses the attention of peers and public alike on the accomplishments and careers of its most talented members.

We would like to congratulate all of our 2008 CIM & MetSoc award recipients for their outstanding contributions to the profession and industry and setting the highest standards for the student and future members of our society.

The awards presentation ceremony was chaired by our 2nd Vice-President Nathan Stubina, of Barrick Gold Corporation. We had the honour this year to have the CIM Fellowship Awards presented in person by the CIM President Mr. James Gowans. The 2008 Airey Award - the most prestigious and highest standard for the Metallurgical Society award was presented to John Joseph Jonas "In recognition of a lifetime of distinguished achievements & outstanding contributions to the advancement of the physical metallurgy of steel in Canada".
