Thank you to all delegates, authors, exhibitors and sponsors who made COM hosting Cu 2007 the largest Conference of Metallurgists event for technical programming and attendance to date!
The Conference of Metallurgists 2007 who had the honour to host the 6th International Copper Conference set a new record with a total registration of over 1000, making the largest Metallurgical event in Canada.
Cu2007 brought together global leadership in business, operations, technology and research from around the world for this unique forum that only occurs every four years. We were happy to host delegates from countries around the world.

In addition to featuring some 400 technical presentations on Copper and Light Metals, delegates had the chance to partake in industrial tours to Sudbury, Montréal, Timmins and Toronto to visit some leading Smelter operations. This Conference also had a “GO GREEN” program to address the environment issue. Delegates were invited to offset their carbon-emissions from travel by purchasing their Carbon offset points. Emphasis was made on recycling bags, badges and signage throughout the event.
The social program featured the Recognition of Excellence at the AGM and MetSoc
Awards luncheon where our MetSoc 2nd VP Dr. Mahesh Chaturvedi and our CIM President Mr. Jim Popowich presented the MetSoc awards and the CIM Fellowships respectively.
All who attended the Copper banquet were treated to a feast of the eyes and senses by our theme of Canada and its four seasons. The evening featured unique entertainment from Cirque du Soleil, to our Native Dance Troop and our enigmatic and charming singer Christine Williams.
The success and outcome of the Cu Conference was the work of the six leading International Professional Societies (IIMCh,
GDMB,
MMIJ,
TMS,
SME,
MetSoc) who tiredlessly persevered in bringing forth symposia of the highest quality to the delegates. Our thanks also to our Light Metals symposium Chair for bringing the topic of the Light Metals in Transport Applications to our members.
We are looking forward to striving to bring value to our members with high standard of technical programming, social responsibility through environmental programs and expanded Trade Show for marketplace opportunities.
MetSoc is planning its 2008 Conference of Metallurgists in Winnipeg featuring technical programming including symposia on:
Zinc and Lead Metallurgy,
Aerospace Materials,
Water, Air and Land Issues:
Sustainability in Mineral and Metal Extraction,
Corrosion,
Structural Alloys for Lightweight
Vehicles and Management in Metallurgy
Advanced Characterization and
Nanomaterials. The Society will of course offer short courses and interesting post-industrial tours. We hope to see you there!
