Aerospace Materials and Manufacturing Symposium IV: Advances in Processing and Repair of Aerospace Materials - In honor of Dr. Mahesh Chaturvedi
Technical Program schedule is subject to change. As the home to the largest aerospace industry in Western Canada, the Winnipeg region has the world’s largest privately owned facility for the repair and overhaul of turbine engines and Canada’s only solid rocket propellant manufacturing plant. The University of Manitoba and regional technical colleges have contributed significantly to the success of the Winnipeg Aerospace cluster by carrying out state of the art research on the development and characterization of new aerospace materials and manufacturing processes. Of particular importance has been the 30 year long effort of professor Mahesh Chaturvedi on physical metallurgy of welding and joining of Superalloys which has resulted in significant progress in understanding underlying mechanisms during welding and joining of Ni base Superalloys, The fourth symposium is organized in honor of Professor Chaturvedi and will focus on but will not be limited to five major topics: 1. Materials and Alloy Development: Superalloys, Ti alloys, Al and Al-Li alloys, polymer based composites, MMCs and intermetallics. 3. Process Modeling and Optimization: Application of numerical and analytical based techniques to optimize process parameters, predict microstructure evolution, and to estimate and control residual stresses. 4. Coatings: Erosion resistant and/or thermal barrier coatings techniques such as plasma spray, HVOF, EB-PVD, as well as emerging technologies such as cold spray, 5. Component Repair and net shape re-manufacturing technologies: Remanufacturing of damaged components using laser and EB based technologies; repair of single crystal Superalloys; rebuilding and cladding technologies for the repair of eroded components. PROCEEDINGSThe proceedings of the symposium will be published in CD form and will be available at the meeting. All papers will be refereed and edited prior to final acceptance and publication.
