INSTRUCTOR

Dr. Paul Bishop, Ph.D., M.A.Sc., B.Eng., P.Eng., Materials Engineering, Department of Process Engineering and Applied Science, Dalhousie University

For over 15 years Dr. Paul Bishop has conducted research on various aspects of powder metallurgy (PM) processing technologies. Dr. Bishop’s career in this field began with the completion of an M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. in the general forum of aluminum PM. The principles and techniques studied were then applied in an industrial setting while he worked as a senior research scientist at a leading manufacturer of PM products - GKN Sinter Metals. During this time, he conducted international R&D as well as technology transfer amongst facilities in Canada, Germany, and the U.S.A.. The diversity of these experiences has given Dr. Bishop a profound appreciation of the scientific principles behind PM and an awareness of the practicalities associated with their application in an industrial environment. His most significant contributions pertain to the development of new aluminum PM materials and automotive applications for this technology.

This course would be of potential benefit to students, engineers, researchers, scientists, and technicians involved in powder metallurgy processing and/or corporate and plant managers, engineers and technologists involved in the development and implementation of energy management and environmental pollution control programs, and in the identification, evaluation and implementation of energy management measures.

COURSE OUTLINE

The course is designed to help participants develop an understanding of aluminum powder metallurgy processing technology. Lecture material will emphasize a combination of the fundamental theory together with insight into the practical reality of industrial production and overview of recent developments.
