The Hydrometallurgy Section of the Metallurgical Society of CIM and the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) are pleased to bring together scientists, engineers and plant operators knowledgeable in the hydrometallurgy of Nickel and Cobalt, to share and discuss the most recent developments in the processing of these metals. This symposium will deal with the hydrometallurgical processing of Nickel and Cobalt ores concentrates and mattes, as well as associated valuable by-products.

The Proceedings of the Hydrometallurgy of Nickel and Cobalt Symposium will be published in book and CD form and will be available for sale at the meeting for $120. Both the symposium and its proceedings will be in English. All papers will be refereed and edited prior to final acceptance and publication.

SHORT COURSE - Nickel and Cobalt Hydrometallurgy

Held in conjunction with the Hydrometallurgy of Nickel & Cobalt Symposium, the Hydrometallurgy Section of MetSoc has organized a short course preceding the symposium. This short course is sponsored by Cytec.


  Duration:

Saturday, August 22nd & Sunday, August 23rd at Laurentian University
  Price: $700 (students $350) (includes hard copy course notes, lunch on Saturday & Sunday, and refreshments)
  Capacity: 80 people. You are not required to be a conference delegate to attend the short courses.
     

Short Course Details

INDUSTRIAL TOUR - Hydrometallurgy - Vale Inco's Port Colborne Refinery

Immediately following the symposium, the Hydrometallurgy Section of MetSoc has organized a Refinery tour to Port Colborne, Ontario. On this 1.5 day tour, our delegates will visit Vale Inco’s Cobalt refinery in Port Colborne and they will also have the opportunity to visit and have a tasting in one of Ontario’s famous Niagara region wineries. The tour will begin directly from Laurentian University by charter bus. Please make sure you have checked out of your hotel and bring your luggage with you to the University Wednesday morning. MetSoc will store luggage in a special location for those participating in the tour.

Wednesday, August 26 and Thursday, August 27th (1.5 day tour)
Tour STARTS in Sudbury and ENDS in Toronto.

Includes Coach Transportation, Cold dinner on Wednesday, Breakfast and Lunch on Thursday and One Overnight Hotel Room on Wednesday at the Holiday Inn in Oakville, Ontario.

  Capacity: 35 people. You are required to be a conference delegate to attend the industrial tours.
