The MetSoc Non-ferrous Pyrometallurgy and the Hydrometallurgy sections invite

James A. Finch
graduated from Birmingham University (Minerals Engineering), BSc in 1969, and from McGill University (Metallurgical Eng.), MSc, 1971 and PhD, 1973. He has been on staff in the Department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering (now Mining and Materials Engineering), McGill University since 1973, becoming a full professor in 1985 and serving as Chair from 1988 to 1991. Since 1991 he has held successively the NSERC-INCO Chair (1991-1996) and Industry Chair in Mineral Processing (1996-), renewed for the third time in 2007 with 9 industrial sponsors. He was appointed Gerald Hatch Chair of Mining and Metallurgical in 2005. He has authored over 250 journal articles and one book, Column Flotation, with Glenn Dobby and supervised over 80 post-graduate students. Since 1974 he has led a series of Mineral Processing Systems Professional Development seminars, the most recent in May 2007. He was CIM Distinguished Lecturer in 1994-1995 and has received the Gaudin award of SME/AIME (1997), the Alcan award (1996), the Silver Medal (2005) and (with Dr. Gomez and the mineral processing group) the Falconbridge Innovation award of Met Soc/CIM (2007), and twice the Best Presentation award of CMP/CIM (1995, 1999). In 2008 as team leader he received the Leo Derikx synergy award for innovation from NSERC (Natural sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada). He was elected to the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada in 2002.

METSOC SECTION MEETINGS
The various sections of MetSoc will hold their annual meeting during lunch on Tuesday, August 25th in the various technical rooms. The meetings will offer a free box sandwich
lunch. These meetings are an invitation to all who are interested in joining these groups and society. The Hydrometallurgy section will also host their lunch (by invitation
only) on Tuesday, August 25th.
METSOC AWARDS BANQUET
On Tuesday, August 25th the Society will honour its outstanding members by presentation of the Society Awards. Tickets for CIM members, authors/session chairs, non-members,
sister societies, and principal exhibitors are complimentary but must be reserved as seating is limited. CIM Life & retired members, students and guests may
purchase tickets with their registration.
