Do we have a succession plan?
This is the question that we have been discussing among ourselves for years. MetSoc created the MetSoc Fund of the CMMF (Canadian Mining and Metallurgy Foundation) to give students in the material and metallurgy fields, the opportunity to pursue their dreams in the industry and also ensures Canada has a viable workforce in these areas.
Nothing beats experience! Each year MetSoc gives over $15,000 in travel funding, scholarships, and support for activities such as:
- Multiple scholarships
- Conference attendance
- Field trips to industrial operations
- Educational exhibitions promoting metallurgy and materials for kids
We need your help and donations to keep our students engaged and to ensure a succession plan for our industry.
Thank you for the 2015 donations that are helping us reach our goal.

Recipient of the MetSoc Doctoral Scholarship (2014)
Anthony Lombardi, 4th year PhD Candidate, Ryerson University
“Attending COM to receive the award was a fantastic experience. In addition to communicating with and learning from distinguished metallurgists from around Canada, COM allowed me to expand my network in both industry and academia. The MetSoc doctoral scholarship is another illustration of MetSoc’s devotion to rewarding outstanding students and growing the metallurgical and materials community in Canada.”
Recipient of the Best Chapter Award (2014)
Carine Latour -MetSoc Student Chapter secretary, undergrad rep
“Throughout my first year in Metallurgical Engineering, I was able to establish a first contact with the industry thanks to conferences organized by the MetSoc student chapter I got involved as a volunteer in their activities throughout year and it is with joy that I am committed to act as Secretary for the year 2012-2013 and continued until 2014.. When we learned that our group was winner of the best chapter, I was delegated to proudly represent Laval University at COM. This experience brought me to a whole new level in my relationship with the metallurgical industry and I have seen the infinite diversity of the field. Thank you for this funding!”
