1.1 ACCESS TO THE CIM DIRECTORY
Use the CIM Directory for your career/job search. The CIM Directory, an annual publication, provides all the names, addresses, and companies of all members of the Institute; this means access to over 1500 active metallurgists and materials engineers throughout Canada and the World.

1.2 THE D.A.R. KAY MEMORIAL IRON AND STEEL SECTION AWARD

The Iron and Steel Section of the Metallurgical Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy recognizes the importance of relevant industrial experience in the curriculum of undergraduate engineering and technology students and, therefore, offers an annual travel award to Canadian students in the materials/metallurgical engineering and technology field. The Award will reimburse students, to a maximum of $2,500 for travel and living expenses incurred as part of a four-month work term in an iron and steel-related business.

Eligibility
This Award is available to students currently enrolled in a second or third year of a materials/process metallurgy/metallurgical engineering or technology program at a Canadian University or college.
Application Procedure
The application deadline is April 30 for a work term to be undertaken on or after May 1st. Applications must include:
  • a professional resume and academic transcript
  • a letter of recommendation from the Chair of the student's academic department
  • an offer of employment from the company providing the work term

Conditions
The ISS CIM Award Committee will make the final selection for this Award and will notify the successful candidate by June 15th.


1.5 STUDENT MONITORS

CIM student members may defray expenses while attending CIM meetings and symposia by serving as a monitor during sessions. Student monitors coordinate the signs, operate audio/visual equipment and tabulate attendance. Students are also hired to work at the registration desk.

3.2 FORUM ON CAREERS IN MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

Held during some TMS conferences, this multi-faceted forum features invited speakers who advise students on career preparation and self-marketing. In a separate part of the forum, students have the opportunity to meet respected industry and academic representatives in the field, and time is allotted for one-on-one questioning in a round-table atmosphere. 3.3 TMS STUDENT/FACULTY MIXERS

Held in conjunction with TMS conferences, these high-spirited, fun-filled mixers provide the perfect forum for students and faculty advisors to network.
