1. OTHER CIM SERVICES
1.1 DISTINGUISHED LECTURER PROGRAM
CIM Distinguished Lecturer Awards are presented annually during the Institute's Annual General Meeting in May. These awards
are made each year to members chosen by the Institute's Societies and Districts, on the basis of
their distinguished service, and their contributions to the industry. Upon their selection, the Distinguished Lecturers
are offered as speakers for the following years' events.
Three Steps to Bringing a Distinguished Lecturer to Speak to Your Group
1. Select a speaker whose topic suits your program.
2. Inform the Communications Department, at the CIM National Office:
http://www.cim.org/activities/lecturers2011.cfm
3. The CIM National Office will then bring the request to the attention of the Distinguished Speaker, and work out the travel
details. Remember to book well in advance, as the Distinguished Lecturers are in great demand. The travel costs are covered
by CIM, but your group is responsible for the speaker's accommodations and any other local expenses
(ask MetSoc for help). The money owed to the
lecturer for expenses must be settled at the time of the speaking engagement.
Note: Make your requests early, because there is a limited number of distinguished lecturers that will visit Student Chapters.
MetSoc can help a Chapter willl additional expenses that the booking of a
distinguished lecturer may incur.
1.2 CIM BRANCH SERVICES
The role of volunteers in building and establishing CIM since 1898 is its greatest strength. Without the volunteers
who have worked to establish the more than fifty local Branches across Canada, the Institute would have ceased to
exist long ago.
Much autonomy is granted to the individual Branches with regard to their formation and operation yet all elected Branch
administrators are individual members of CIM who abide by and implement the policies established by the Council of CIM.
CIM stresses the importance of an active Branch program for students, especially within communities where universities and
colleges are located, hence, the development of an array of valuable services to encourage students to pursue careers in the
Natural Resources Industry.
Note: If your area is not listed here, please communicate with programs at (514) 939-2710 ext.
1316 or at programs@cim.org.
